The study was conducted to assess perceived empowerment and quality of life of persons with schizophrenia attending community based psychosocial rehabilitation. The objectives of the study were to identify the perceived empowerment and quality of life of persons with schizophrenia attending community based psychosocial rehabilitation, to find out the relationship between perceived empowerment and quality of life of persons with schizophrenia. The conceptual frame work used in the study was based on Sr. Callista Roys's system adaptation model and Non-experimental approach with descriptive survey design was used for the study. The tools used were semi structured interview schedule to collect socio personal data and clinical data, Roger's empowerment scale to assess perceived empowerment and WHO QOL-BREF rating scale to assess the quality of life. The sample consisted of 110 persons with schizophrenia who met inclusion criteria and used consecutive sampling. The data were collected from various pain and palliative clinics involved in giving community based psychosocial rehabilitation to the persons with mental illness in Kozhikode and Malappurm districts. The result showed that 85.5% of participants have high empowerment and 82.7% of the participants reported high quality of life. The study found that there was significant correlation between perceived empowerment and QOL (Pearson Correlation Coefficient ‘r’ = 0.905) (P Value 0.001) of persons with schizophrenia attending community based psychosocial rehabilitation. The study concluded that the persons with schizophrenia attending community based psychosocial rehabilitation have greater sense of empowerment and empowerment enhances the quality of life of persons with schizophrenia attending community based psychosocial rehabilitation.
