Critical care nurses are usually unaware of evidence based preventive guidelines for VAP, resulting in negative impact on all aspects of patient care. There are limited Indian studies which evaluated the nurse's knowledge to VAP prevention Bundle.
Our study aimed to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on VAP bundle among staff nurses in critical care unit.
The investigator used Quasi-experimental design and Purposive sampling technique used to select the sample in medical and surgical adult intensive care units in a tertiary care hospital in South India. Study Sample size was 114. Data collected included background variables (demographic variables) and Structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed with the paired sample ‘T’ test.
There was a statistically significant increase in the knowledge level of participants Mean (S.D) 5.68(2.8) with 95% C.I (4.94–6.43) and p <0.001.
The 2-hour teaching module significantly enhanced nurses’ knowledge towards evidence based guidelines for the prevention of VAP.
