An Exploratory Study to Identify the Factors Related to Compliance and Non Compliance of Immunization Schedule among the Mothers of Under Five Children

Abstract

Immunization is the process by which an individual's immune system becomes fortified against an agent known as the immunogen. Mostly children are not immunized because of certain reasons which lead to get certain diseases and death. The aim of the study was to identify the factors related to compliance and non compliance of immunization schedule among the mothers of under five children residing in selected rural areas of Mohali.

In present study, Quantitative research and exploratory research design approach was used, study was conducted in selected villages of Mohali. The sample consists of 150 mothers of under-five children residing in Mohali, Non-probability convenient sampling techniqueand Semi structured interview schedule was used to identify factors related compliance and non compliance of immunization.

In present study, 64% of the mothers of under than five children comes under compliance factors and 36%were comes under non compliance factors. Factors related to compliance of immunization schedule were availability of health workers and facilities, awareness about importance of immunization, prevent child from disease and factors related to non compliance of immunization schedule were lack of knowledge regarding immunization, fear of side effects, busy schedule of parents and vaccination centre are far away from abode.

The findings of study revealed that there is need to enhance knowledge regarding importance of immunization schedule.
