Abstract

No war on the face of the Earth is more destructive than the AIDS pandemic. HIV/AIDS is one of the most devastating global epidemics of twentieth century. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 70 million people have been infected with the HIV virus and about 35 million people have died of HIV. Globally, 36.7 million [34.0–39.8 million] people were living with HIV at the end of 2015

An evaluatory approach with quasi experimental two group pre and post-test design was adapted in the study. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 60 HIV positive patients (30 in experimental and 30 in control group). Data were collected from study participants by standardized self administering questionnaires these are Herth hope index scale and Meaning in life scale..

At posttest level experimental group and control group subjects had a significant differences in mean hope scores ('t ’= 2.24 significant at 0.05 level)and had had no significant differences in mean scores of meaning in life ('t ’= 1.82, not significant at 0.05 level). Hope levels were improved but Meaning in life scores were not significantly improved among experimental group subjects.pre and posttest mean scores of hope and meaning life among experimental group also showed a significant difference (mean pretest hope score was 28.83 and mean posttest score was 31.57, ‘t ’= 8.41, significant at 0.001 level, mean pretest meaning in life score was 41.77 and mean posttest score was 43.57, ‘t ’= 6.31, significant at 0.001 level). In experimental group compared to pretest, posttest hope and meaning in life scores were significantly improved. Results showed that Psychosocial intervention helped in improving hope and meaning life among HIV positive patients.
