Assistant Professor,
Quality concern for patient care is as old as health facilities itself. ‘To err is human ’, but errors can be prevented through good quality care. Keeping this in view, a study was conducted to assess the knowledge of student nurses on Quality assurance in clinical practice.
To assess the level of knowledge among student nurses on Quality assurance in clinical practice.
To associate findings with the selected demographic variables like age, experience and qualification.
Quantitative approach with Descriptive design using simple random sampling is adopted, where 110 student nurses were assessed using a questionnaire with 29 items on care of patient, hospital infection control, and management of medication and patient rights.
62%, 36%, and 2% of students were in 18–24 years, 24–30 years and >30 years of age respectively. 75% was Under Graduate and 25% were Post Graduate students. 96% and 4% of students had 1–2 years and >4 years of clinical experience respectively. 20%, 73% and 7% of PG students and 23%, 60% and 17% of UG students had good, moderate and poor level of Knowledge respectively. Experience was strongly associated with Knowledge (=21.3, P=0.001) whereas other variables were not significant.
Clinical experience was strongly associated with Knowledge. Students had less knowledge regarding quality and hence needs curriculum revision and quality driven clinical practice.
