Level of awareness regarding preconception care among unmarried college students

Abstract

The study aimed to assess the level of awareness regarding preconception care among unmarried college students. Design used was Methodological triangulation research approach and non-probability convenient sampling data was collected from 100 unmarried college students. The health status of the samples was assessed using anthropometric measurements and anaemia level was also assessed. The result showed that the majority of them 55% were in overweight (25–29.9kg/m2) majority of them 71% were moderately anemic(9-10mg/dl). The level of awareness on preconception care was assessed using knowledge questionnaire. The result showed that Mean score percentage was 49.3 which revealed that the samples were having inadequate awareness regarding preconception care. Chi-square association showed there is significant association between the level of awareness and their area of residence. Further informational booklet was given to improve the awareness regarding preconception care. The post-test after distribution of the informational booklet revealed that the students were satisfied with the informational booklet.
