Assess the knowledge on physiological and psychological changes and its management during pregnancy among primigravida women

Abstract

One of the most important events of a women's life is her first pregnancy, and so it is more important to maintain perfect health to bring a healthy baby into this world. A women's maternal involvement begins with pregnancy and intensifies when she gives birth and cares for the infant's health and socialization. During the pregnancy travel, every woman has various experiences. Generally most women report experience of a mixture of anxiety and happiness. During pregnancy or during childbirth, they feel fear and pain that it almost equals to encountering death. The main aim of this study is to assess the knowledge on physiological and psychological changes and its management during pregnancy among primigravida women. Non experimental descriptive research design was used. The non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample of 30 primigravida women. The tool used was structured questionnaire on physiological and psychological changes and its management in pregnancy. The data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that majority of the samples had Moderately adequate knowledge (73%) and only 7% of the samples had inadequate knowledge. The mean knowledge score shows that mean score was 19.4 + 5.65 and mean percentage was 65%. There was no significant association found between the knowledge scores and the demographic variables, except religion that had association with knowledge scores.
