An exploratory study on birth preparedness among the child bearing women in selected hospitals of tricity

Women and newborns need timely access to skilled care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum/newborn period. An exploratory study was conducted to assess the birth preparedness among the antenatal mothers. Descriptive, explorative approach was used and 150 mothers were selected for the study by using non probability sampling technique. Interview schedule with structured questionnaire was used to conduct the study. Data was analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Study findings shows that the majority (58.0%) of the antenatal mothers falls into a category of average, 33.3% of them had poor and 8.7% of them had good birth preparedness. None of them fall into well prepared category. To conclude women must be prepared well enough to receive the newborn for providing comprehensive care
