Abstract

In the present paper the hypothesis is that accumulation of L-Cysteine in any tissue to a sufficient concentration will provide maximum radioprotection to that tissue. For this purpose biodistribution of L-35S Cysteine in different organs of Swiss Albino mice was undertaken by liquid scintillation counting. The in vivo radioactive uptake at different time intervals clearly indicated maximum uptake for bone marrow and blood at 22 hours. So, L-Cysteine should be considered a good radioprotector for heamopoetic system.
