Model based point estimates of survival/death rates – An input for radiation risk evaluation in indian context

Abstract

The Indian data on all causes age-specific survival/death/incidence rates areeither scanty or available as interval estimates which render the data unsuitable for many a computational integration situations. Some applications like epidemiological evaluations in radiation-inducedhealth risks require these inputs as point estimatesfor computation of risk attributes. An attempt has been made to generate these estimates from existing survey based data tables (Registrar General of India, 2000) by using the probability-probacent model previously adopted by Chungon NCHS data (1995). The mathematical formula so generated for Indian data as well as for each Indian state facilitate better intra-comparison. The inter-comparison ofrisk attributes of Indian population with ICRP (western population)is discussed briefly.
