99mTc ciprofloxacin emission and transmission scan in detection of salmonella vertebral osteomyelitis

Abstract

The authors report a case of vertebral osteomyelitis detected on 99mTc-ciprofloxacin scan in a 50 year old female and conferred by low voltage CT system provided forfusion imaging with the gamma camera. A differential diagnosis of infective spondylitis was given on MRI scan, later a bone FNAC established a diagnosis of salmonella osteomyelitis. Thus 99mTc-ciprofloxacin scan is useful in detection of infection of spine, Fusion imaging using nuclear scan and low end CT can provide additional anatomical information in spine infection.
