Abstract

Paget's disease is due to altered bone metabolism. Though no published literature is available on the exact incidence of Paget's disease in India, it is believedto be rare. In 3050 patients of various clinical presentations referred for bone scintigraphy over a period of 7 years at Tata Main Hospital (TMH), 9 patientswere diagnosed as Paget's disease. Besides clinical presentation, the work-upincluded routine biochemical tests and serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) estimation, plain radiography and bone scintigraphy. The follow up period variedfrom six months to eight years. Symptomatic patients were put on oral biphosphonatesand the bone scintigraphy was repeated to record improvement or disease progression. Multicentric studies to collect such data could correct the myth on rarity of Paget's disease in India.
