Positron Emission Tomography technology has been in India for slightly over a year. Last year, at the same time, I had mentioned in my message that the bold step of DAE to set up a PET cyclotron facility will serve many purposes like technology demonstration and evaluation, development of appropriate man power, develop applications peculiar to our needs and contribute to R & D efforts in finding more applications of this modality. Also, it was envisaged that more centres would emerge to utilize the produce from the cyclotron facility. It is heartening to note that now about three centres are utilizing the produce of FDG. A new dedicated PET-CT scanner will be operational in Mumbai. Centres in Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata are actively considering joining the PET map of India. Next year should see at least three to four more operational installations coming up.We are still at the beginning of the learning curve as far as understanding the strengths and limitations of this modality are concerned. To hasten the learning process relevant literature, etc. will most definitely come in handy. IJNM has committed itself to provide its readers with the required literature on the subject on a regular basis.It is a constant endeavour of the society of nuclear medicine in India to promote this speciality to the overall medical fraternity. Organising the annual conference at Mysore, where no formal nuclear medicine facility exists is step in this direction. The conference will provide a forum for the physicians and medical students of the city to acquaint themselves with the vast potential of a relatively unknown field, allowing nuclear medicine to spread its wings slowly but steadily to all parts of India. Mysore, the imperial city of palaces, will experience its maiden nuclear medicine conference. We hope it is an event, which will be remembered for years to come.This issue highlights the details of the scientific events of our forthcoming conference for the year 2004 at Mysore.Happy Conferencing…</sec></body></article></article></body></html>
