Abstract

The aim of this study is to monitor the radiation levels in and around a newly commissioned PET facility at Army hospital, New Delhi.

A layout of the PET facility has been drafted. The radiation monitoring has been carried out using Ludlum survey meter and pocket dosimeter. Radiation levels (Õ-rays and neutron) were monitored around Cyclotron RDS 111 self shielded (before bombardment, during bombardment, after bombardment) Hot cell, Explora (before synthesis, during synthesis of different stages and after synthesis), During QC and patient waiting hall where patients were injected with 10mCi 18F-FDG. Radiation dose to technologists performing the scan and positioning were also measured. The results were tabulated.

The radiation monitoring in and around the PET facility reveals that the radiation levels were well within recommended limits. The radiation monitoring in a PET facility is a necessary requirement from radiation safety point of view and it tell us how we safe during working in a newly commissioned PET facility. This will help us to keep doses of staff working at PET facility below the average annual effective dose limit of 20mSv.
