Abstract

The aim of this study is to production of 18F (for Bone Scan) and 18F-FDG (for other oncology cases) by single run of RDS 111 Medical Cyclotron (CTI Siemens)

After production of 18F it is transferred in to hot cell where V-vial kept in dose calibrator. The volume of transferred 18F is about 1.25 ml. On the V-vial there is marked 0.1, 0,3,1,3,5,7,9 ml respectively. There are six ports on the cap of V-vial, in one of them we were put the peak tube for 18F (for Bone Scan) and the other end of peak tube putted in to a sterile vial containing normal saline

18F (T½ = 110 minutes) is produced by irradiation of 18O water with 11 Mev proton in Medical Cyclotron. 18F provide sufficient 18F-NaF for bone scan. The transferred 18F (for Bone Scan) is depending upon how deep it is put in to the V-vial (i.e. below 1.25 ml). The US-FDA has approved it for bone scientigraphy since it localized in bone by exchanging with phosphate ion in the hydroxyapatite.

This is very useful, efficient and effective way to produce 18F and 18F-FDG simultaneously by single run of Cyclotron. By this technique avoid the Cyclotron Re-run. This could bring down the running cost of Cyclotron by half.
