Abstract

Five systematic and five non-systematic fungicides were evaluated against Alternaria alternata causing leaf blight of turmeric under in vitro conditions. Among systemic fungicides penconazole, propiconazole and hexaconazole showed hundred per cent inhibition of the fungus at all three concentrations tested while the non-systemic fungicide mancozeb at all three concentration and zineb at 0.3 per cent were best in completely inhibiting the growth of A. alternata. Screening of turmeric genotypes for foliar blight at Arabhavi (field) and Dharwad (field and glasshouse) revealed that, the genotypes viz., Amalapuram, Bidar 1, Bidar 4, CLI-315, CLI-327, Cuddapah and Salem were found moderately resistant to leaf blight.
