A viral disease of chickpea (Cicer arietinium L.) characterized by narrow leaves was detected in few cultivars during the survey of chickpea crops in sub montane low hills sub-tropical zone of Himachal Pradesh. Incidence of infected chickpea plants was less than 2 percent. The virus isolate was identified as a strain of bean yellow mosaic virus. It was transmitted by sap and two aphid sps., Myzus persicae and Aphis craccivora in non persistent manner and had a very restricted host range. In serological test (agar gel diffusion test) the virus reacted positively with antiserum of bean yellow mosaic virus.
