Wheat monosomlcs (2n-1) are commonly used for assigning genes on to each of the chromosomes. These can be best Identified by the cytological analysis of the chromosomes in the pollen mother cells, though, few monosomics with respect to few chromosomes can be Identified by critically observing some of the plant characteristics. The present study reports Identification of some chromosomes by observing morphological traits. A set of sixteen monosomlcs in background of cultlvar Lal Bahadur and five monosomlcs of cultlvar Kalyan Sona were examined for morphological traits like plant height, spike length, spike shape, awns, no. of tillers per plant, shape and colour of the flag leaf, maturity and male sterility. The comparision of the monosomic lines with the disomics revealed significant involvement of certain chromosomes for agronomic traits.Using these traits, the monosomic lines for chromosomes 2A, 5A, 1A, 3D, 1B, 1D and 50 can be easily Identified. Because univalent shift often tends to produce monosomlcs involving chromosomes other than the parental stocks, these results can help in true to type maintenance of the monosomic stocks to some extent.
