Evaluation of new non-scented experimental hybrids of rice (Oryza sativa L.) for yield and yield attributing traits

Abstract

Standard heterosis was estimated for twelve yield attributing characters on thirteen hybrids over 3 checks viz., KRH-2, Jaya and IR 30864. All hybrids flowered earlier than Jaya and IR 30864. None of the hybrids manifested significant positive standard heterosis over KRH-2, except IR 70369A/Athira for plant height. Two hybrids viz., CRMS 31A/KMR-3 and CRMS 6A/KMR-3 showed significant positive heterosis over all the three checks. Three hybrids expressed significant positive standard heterosis over all the three checks for thousand grain weight. Three hybrids namely CRMS 31 A/KMR-3, CRMS 6A/KMR-3 and KCMS 12A/IET 17082 expressed highly significant positive heterosis over all the three checks for grain yield. Two hybrids viz., CRMS 31A/KMR-3 and CRMS 6A/KMR-3 were identified as promising hybrids as they were non-scented and also high yielding than KRH-2.
