Blast is caused by Magnaporthe grisea (Hebert) Barr) (Syn: Pyricularia grisea (Cooke) Sacc.) a filamentous ascomycetes fungi infecting more than 50 hosts. Owing to its changing virulence composition, the present study was initiated to understand the extent of enzyme variation among the isolates collected from different rice growing regions of the Karnataka. The isozyme pattern of different isolates of P. grisea under study was carried out with respect to peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. There was significant variation among different isolates of P. grisea as regard to banding pattern of peroxidase and poiyphenol oxidase. The variation within these isozyme bands of different isolates usually involved in the position of faint minor bands of different comparative thickness or density of bands.
