Guttaflow has been introduced to replace Gutta-percha and traditional sealers for root canal obturation and it has been claimed that because of the small particle size (< 0.9μm) of the Guttaflow matrix filler the material flows into the smallest dentinal tubules.
The aim of the study was to compare the apical sealing ability of Guttaflow when used with and without gutta percha.
In this in vitro study, 60 intact, non carious mandibular lower premolars were taken in which 40 comprised the experimental group and 20 comprised the control group. 3% Sodium Hypochlorite and 40% Citric Acid were used as irrigants. Root canals were obturated in experimental group with Gutta flow, Gutta flow and Gutta percha master cone, Gutta percha and Acroseal using lateral condensation and Gutta percha master cone with Acroseal. All the roots were suspended in aqueous 2% Methylene Blue dye for 2 days. Each section was then viewed under a stereomicroscope. The results were tabulated and statistically analysed.
The results showed thatthe Group in which the teeth were obturated with Guttaflow and Gutta percha master point showed the least leakage.
