Abstract

"When we meet afact which contradicts aprevailing theory, we must accept the fact and abandon the theory, even when the theory is supported by great names and generally accepted". This statement by von Claude Bernard (1813 -1878) expresses the spirit of EBM/EBD1. Evidence based dentistry has been acting as pathfinder to de-emphasize intuition and unsystematic clinical experience for clinical decision making and stresses the examination of scientific evidence to deliver best patient care. Recent years have seen an increase in the importance of evidence-based dentistry, aiming to reduce to the maximum the gap between clinical research and dental practice. This review emphasis on present scenario of evidence based dental practice with its benefits and pitfalls.
