Abstract

In estimating age of juvenile and adolescents, the teeth are employed primarily because of its low variability and less affection by endocrine and nutritional status in development. Tooth formation is widely used to assess maturity and to predict age. Dental maturity was studied from dental intra oral periapical radiographs of hundred children aged 4 to 17 years in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar. Reliability of dental age estimation using Demirjian's method was investigated. Chronological age was obtained from the date of birth certificate of children. The actual age (Chronological age) and estimated age (Dental age) obtained using maturity score based on different calcification stages from initial tooth calcification to apex closure of the seven permanent left mandibular teeth was calculated by Demirjian's method and was found to be same in both sexes.
