Traumatic dental injuries (TDI) are very common in children and immediate measures are crucial for successful prognosis. These injuries frequently occur during school hours. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge level of immediate measures taken after dental injuries among school teachers.
A questionnaire containing 20 objective questions for the assessment of teacher's knowledge were distributed. The appraisal included demographic details, importance of dental care and knowledge regarding immediate measures taken after dental injuries. The answers given by them were tabulated and analyzed.
A total of 50 teachers participated from private schools in this study and lack of knowledge was observed among majority of teachers. 60% of the respondents have less than average knowledge regarding immediate measures to be taken after dental traumatic injuries.
The overall knowledge of school teachers regarding immediate measures after dental injuries was unsatisfactory. Efforts should be made to promote effective communication between dentists and teachers in order to enable them to act correctly when facing dental traumatic injuries. Organization of educational campaigns and preventive programs will go a long way in accomplishing this goal.
