Abstract

The thyroid gland, a 2 inch long gland located just below the larynx, produces hormones responsible for ones metabolism. Thyroid gland produces two main hormones, T3 and T4. In addition pituitary gland produces thyroid stimulating hormone [TSH] which helps control how much T3 and T4, the thyroid gland makes. Hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine abnormality, which is due to decreased production and release of thyroid hormone.Hypothyroidism can be congenital or acquired.Delayed treatment can cause definite changes in the oral cavity and face.This article reports a case of acquired hypothyroidism in a nineteen year old female patient,who reported to the department with striking features.
