Organ donation is a boon to medical industry as it has helped in saving the lives of those who would have died otherwise. There are several reasons for the shortage of organs. Perhaps the most common is that people are hesitant to donate organs because they don't have adequate knowledge regarding it.
The primary objective of the study was to assess the effect of a Self Instructional Module (SIM) on knowledge regarding Organ Donation among degree students. The study also determined the association between the knowledge scores and the selected demographic variables.
A Quantitative approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for this study. The sample consists of 60 degree students selected by stratified random technique. The data was collected using structured knowledge questionnaire. Pre-test was conducted on day one. SIM was given on the same day. Post test was conducted on day five. The collected data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
The study revealed that the mean post-test knowledge score (24.41) of degree students on organ donation was significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (16.28). The chi-square computed findings showed that there was significant association between the demographic variable, area of residence and knowledge score.
The study concluded that SIM was found to be highly effective in improving the knowledge level of degree students regarding Organ Donation
