This article explores challenges and solutions faculty can use to solve the dilemma of securing relevant clinical placements for nursing students in a capstone course.
Thirty-five articles and the Institute of Medicine's report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health were reviewed to find recommendations and best practice evidence on academic or educational practice partnerships, evidence-based practice, guiding nursing students through the capstone course, dedicated education units, and precepting nursing students.
Academic nursing leaders developed a marketing strategies tool kit and met with practice leaders to establish educational-practice partnerships. This provided students a clinical site to complete their capstone projects. Students informed faculty of the challenges they face when their organization refuses to allow them to complete their project within the organization. Faculty have reached out to clinical sites and sought nontraditional experiences.
