The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of “ Hands on skill training programme on cardio pulmonary resuscitation” among school children in selected schools, Tirupati.
The objectives of the study were, to assess the knowledge and knowledge on practices among school children regarding Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, to assess the skills of CPR among school children, to evaluates the effectiveness of hands on skill training programme among school children, to assess the correlation between knowledge, knowledge on practices and skills regarding CPR among school children and to associate the relationship between demographic variables and knowledge, knowledge on practices and skills on CPR among school children.
A quasi experimental pre and post-test design was adopted. Fifty 9th class school children were selected by using cluster sampling method at selected schools of Tirupati. Assessed the level of knowledge, knowledge on practices and skills regarding CPR among school children by using the structured questionnaire and observation checklist. Hands on skill training programme was provided with video instruction and demonstration of the procedure. After seven days of hands on skill training programme the post-test was conducted by using same pre-test questionnaire and skill observation checklist.
The effectiveness of the hands on skills training programme on level of knowledge, knowledge on practices and skills were significant at P<0.01 level. There is a positive correlation between knowledge and knowledge on practices. Where as no correlation with skills were observed
The study results proved that the hands on skill training programme markedly improved the knowledge, knowledge on practices and skills of the school children regarding Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
