Abstract

Ventilator associated pneumonia is a serious health care concern associated with high mortality and morbidity rates among the ventilated patients accounts for increasing the length of stay in ICU duration of mechanical ventilation and incremental cost.

The aim of the study is to assess the compliance rate of nurses with the infection control VAP bundle in the critical care unit.

A prospective quasi experimental time series study was conducted for a period of six months which includes forty three nurses working in the critical care unit142 patients on mechanical ventilator. The compliance rate of nurses regarding VAP bundle were assessed before and after a sensitizing proggramme on modified infection control bundle care.

The results revealed that the compliant score significantly increased in the next 3 months after the sensitizing program at p<0.001 level.

The sensitizing program on modified infection control bundle care was effective in increasing the compliance rate of nurses towards infection control bundle. Hence the success of the bundle care depends on the continuous educational activities.
