A Descriptive Correlational Study on Compassion and Professional Quality of Life among Nurses

Every nurse is complete only when she exhibit compassion in her professional life. In today's nursing world whether such practice exist is questionable and it takes a lot on her professional quality of life. The present study is aimed to assess compassion and professional quality of life and correlate these two variables among nurses. A descriptive approach is used and faculty members from a college of nursing and nurses from a selected hospital forms the population of the study. A total of 74 was the sample size and solicited convenience sampling technique. The study utilized two standardized tools such as Compassion for others scale and Professional quality of life scale. The results of the study revealed that nurses reported moderate level of compassion and professional quality of life with mean percentage 62.23 and 63.13 respectively. And both variables were found to have significant correlation with r = 0.723, p=0.000. Further, compassion scale scores were also significantly correlated with all the three subscales of professional quality of life scale. With regard to association, the findings demonstrated both variables had significant association with all demographic variables except gender.
