A Study to Assess Knowledge of Postnatal Women Regarding Postnatal Complications at MMIMS & R Hospital, Mullana, Ambala, Haryana

Pregnancy and childbirth are major life events in a woman's life. They bring lots of joy in the family as well as many changes in the woman's physical, psychological and emotional status. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of postnatal women regarding postnatal complications and to determine the association between level of knowledge of postnatal women with selected variables and treatment seeking behaviour. 100 postnatal women within the period of six weeks were selected by convenience sampling technique at MMIMS&R Hospital, Mullana, Ambala. Data was collected using structured interview schedule. Findings of the study revealed that out of 100 postnatal women, 78 postnatal women had experienced one or more than one postnatal complications, whereas 22 postnatal women had no postnatal complications. Most reported postnatal complication was backache whereas least reported postnatal complication was dyspareunia. Majority of postnatal women sought treatment for postnatal complications outside home from doctor. Thus the findings of the study revealed that although overall knowledge of postnatal women was good but postnatal women suffered more with postnatal complications.
