Effectiveness of Health Promotion Interventions on Parameters of Common Preventable Geriatric Problems of Elderly Women in South India

Abstract

A research study was done to assess the effectiveness of health promotion interventions on selected parameters of osteoporosis and anemia of elderly women living in old age home in south India. One hundred and three women aged 60–75 years were selected from old age home. Teaching programme about the importance of nutrition, physical activity was administered with continuous reinforcement. The dietary supplements, walking, stretching exercise was implemented for six months period. The results showed that knowledge and physical activity were improved. The dietary supplements and physical activity had successfully modified the bone loss. The dietary supplement also improved the level of hemoglobin. The results suggest that exercise and dietary supplements may be an effective approach to improving the parameters of osteoporosis and anemia among elderly women.
