Teaching and Learning Activities: Satisfaction of Nurse Educators and Student Nurses

It is evident that higher employee satisfaction being correlated with greater customer satisfaction. In nursing environment nurse educators are employees of nursing institution and students are viewed as its customers.1 Each group derives satisfaction from different aspects of what occurred in nursing education, yet the satisfaction experienced by one group expected to affect their performance and the satisfaction experienced by the other group. This study was conducted to determine and compare the satisfaction of nurse educators and student nurses on teaching activities of Nurse educators and student nurses’ learning activities.

A descriptive survey approach with descriptive comparative design was used for study. The sample size consisted of 310 student nurses selected by disproportionate stratified random sampling method and 72 nurse educators selected by purposive sampling technique. Four satisfaction rating scales (two for nurse educators and two for student nurses) were used to collect the data about nurse educators and student nurses satisfaction on teaching activities of nurse educators and learning activities of student nurses

The result of the study showed that the mean percentage of nurse educators satisfaction on teaching activities was 80.85% where as on learning activities of student nurses was 69.76%. The mean percentage of student nurses satisfaction on teaching activities of nurse educators was 63.7%, where as on self learning activities was 72.9%. Significant difference (t(380)=9.1 p<0.05) was found between the satisfaction of nurse educators and student nurses on nurse educators teaching activities. With regard to learning activities of students there was no significant difference (t(380)=1.91 p>0.05) between nurse educators and student nurses.

Finding of the study revealed that nurse educators are highly satisfied with their teaching, whereas student nurses are only satisfied with nurse educators’ teaching activities. On student nurses learning activities both nurse educators and student nurses exhibited satisfaction. Comparatively nurse educators are more satisfied with their teaching than student nurses. On student nurses learning activities both nurse educators and student nurses exhibited satisfaction.
