Knowledge and Attitude on Breast Cancer among Mothers Residing in Tanahu, Nepal

To assess the knowledge & attitude on breast cancer among the mothers residing in Tanahun district, Nepal.

This study was a descriptive and conducted in Dhorephirdi, Tanahu, Nepal. The tools were demographic performa, knowledge questionnaire and attitude scale on breast cancer. Data were collected by asking questions regarding breast cancer. Total samples were 100 and sampling technique was convenient. Inclusion criteria: Mothers were residing in Dhorephirdi, Tanahu, Nepal. The data was analyzed using Excel 2003, R 2.8.0 Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows Version 16.0 (SPSS Inc; Chicago, IL, USA) and the EPI Info 3.5.1 Windows Version.

Most of the mothers were belong to age group of 21–30 (49%) followed by age group 31–40 (34%) and majority of them were house wife (81%). The educational status of the mothers were below SLC (61%), above SLC (29%), graduate and above (6%) and only 4% illiterate. Majority of mothers were having poor knowledge on breast cancer (46%) followed by average (45%) and only 9% had good knowledge. 89% of mothers had good attitude on breast cancer.

The mother residing in Tanahudistrist have poor knowledge on breast cancer so woman should be educated about breast cancer which may help to decrease the number of breast cancer among women.
