Crimes: A Threat to Public Health

This paper aims at discussing the determinants that contribute to the rising trend of crimes. The paper presents certain determinants of crimes cited in the literature; and it analyzes the interaction between those factors. Genetics, family dynamics, peer influence, poverty, as well as certain psychological, cultural, technological and political factors have been identified as being responsible for increasing rate of crimes, worldwide. The paper also highlights the importance of this issue from the public health perspective. The issue has been found to affect physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing of individuals, families and communities, leading to severely adverse outcomes.
