Health-related quality of life refers to the effects of an individual's physical state on all aspects of psycho-social functioning. Generally speaking, quality of life may also be defined as "the extent to which our hopes and ambitions are matched by experience"1. Recently, there is growing awareness of the aspects of quality of life and aging. Quality of life is a subjective parameter and direct questioning is therefore a simple and appropriate way of accruing information about how individuals feel and function. Accordingly, measures of quality of life (QOL) attempt to gauge the effect of ill health across a number of physical, psychological and social parameters.
