Cancer is the leading cause of death in developed countries and the second leading cause of death in developing countries1. Despite of recent advances and growing number of newer antiemetic regimens, nausea and vomiting continue to be among the most significant adverse events following chemotherapy2. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of Indian ginger tea to subside chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting among cancer patients which is simple and less expensive intervention.
quasi-experimental non equivalent pre test-post test control group design.
purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 60 patients having chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, 30 each in experimental and control group.
nausea and vomiting assessment scale (observation scale) and patient judged nausea and vomiting assessment scale.
The analysis of the findings revealed that, the administration of Indian ginger tea was effective in reducing the nausea and vomiting as the independent't ’values in post test 2 and post test 3 was statistically significant at 0.05 level of significance. Also, there was no association between pre test nausea and vomiting grades with their selected personal variables.
The oral administration of Indian ginger tea will help to reduce the chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting among cancer patients. This study adds one more evidence to the fact that Indian ginger tea is effective in management of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting among cancer patients.
