Abstract

Labour events have got great psychological, emotional and social impact to the woman and her family. The labour pains are felt more anteriorly with simultaneous hardening of the uterus which is bodily pushed forwards. Complementary and alternative therapies for pain relief involve non pharmacologic measures that may be used either as a woman's total pain management program or to complement pharmacologic interventions. Most of these interventions are based on the gate control theory concept that distraction can be effective in preventing the brain from processing pain sensations coming into the cortex.
