Abstract

A descriptive study to assess the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls was conducted in selected schools in Bangalore, Karnataka The study was conducted with the objectives of assessing the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls and to find out the association between level of knowledge and selected socio demographic variables. A quantitative research approach with descriptive research design was used to assess the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 100 students.

A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls

The significant finding of the study was, majority (81%) of the students had moderate knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene. The findings shows that there was no significant association of knowledge of adolescent girls regarding menstrual hygiene with the demographic variables.

On the basis of the findings of the study, few recommendations were made for future research such as the study can be replicated on a large sample in different setting for making broad generalisation, an experimental study can be conducted to assess the knowledge about menstrual hygiene by the methods of pre test and post test, and a comparative study can be done between rural and urban adolescent girls.
