Mental retardation is very common developmental disability seen in children and adolescents throughout the world. The study was aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of mother regarding care of MR children and to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme.
The research design adopted for this study was true experimental design with evaluative the educative approach. The sample size was 60 mothers. In this, 30 mothers were randomly assigned for experimental group and 30 for control group. Self developed Questionnaire was used to measure the knowledge and attitude of the mothers of the mental retardated children.
The experimental group knowledge and attitude mean score is significantly higher than the control group means score at the level of significance p ≤0.05.
The knowledge and attitude of mother can be further improved by providing ongoing teaching and training programs.
