Orthognathic surgeries have been successfully used over the years in the surgical management of facial deformities. Anatomic and anthropological descriptions of the mandibular foramen have related its position to the lingula, anterior and posterior border of ramus, inferior mandibular border, coronoid process, sigmoid notch, mandibular angle and the gonial notch. The use of lateral ramus prominence as a reference point helps in the placement of osteotomy cuts on the ascending ramus accurately thus avoiding transsection of the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle. This study aims to determine the incidence oflateral ramus prominence and its relationship to the mandibular foramen.
