Abstract

A maxillary midline supernumerary tooth is the most common type of supernumerary tooth. We present a case of supernumery teeth (mesiodens) delaying eruption of a permanent maxillary central incisor in a 12 year old child. Following the extraction of the supernumery teeth (erupted and unerupted mesiodens), permanent maxillary central incisor has successively erupted into the oral cavity in six months. The aetiology, diagnosis and the effect of these developmental anomalies upon the dentition are discussed.
