Cross-sectional study on prevalence of malocclusion among the students of national dental college, Dera Bassi:

Prevalence of malocclusion is estimated to be higher in developed countries as compared to developing & underdeveloped countries. A number of studies have been conducted to determine the prevalence of malocclusion among Indians. A cross sectional survey was carried out in November 2010 to study the prevalence of malocclusion among BDS students studying at National Dental College, Dera Bassi using Angle's Classification of Malocclusion. A total of 285 students were examined and the data was analyzed. It was found that Class I malocclusion is most common and was reported in 70.88% of the students followed by Class II in 27.02% of the cases with Class II Div. I reported in 11.23% and Class HI cases constituted just 2.10% of the sample. It was also found that no difference existed among males and females in any type of Malocclusion.
