This study was conducted to see the correlation of blood insulin levels with blood pressure in normal subjects and patients of type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM).
This was a cross sectional study. All the subjects were investigated for fasting blood insulin and blood pressure. Out of 30 subject studied, 10 were normal while 20 were diabetics.
On studying 20% of normal subjects had hyperinsulinemia, out of which 50% were hypertensive; 30% of diabetics had hyperinsulinemia. Mean value of fasting insulin in normal subjects were 13.8±3.24 μu/ml and 17.3±4.9 μu/ml in diabetics. Odds ratio between hyperinsulinemia and HT were indicating the correlation between two.
Hypertension in more likely to be present in hyperinsulinemic persons.
