Abstract

Grip strength is an indicator of overall physical strength. It is a functional index of endurance and forearm strength. The present study has been put forward to study the functional integrity of upper extremity and excellent performance in cricket.

Study group consists of district and state level male cricketers in the age group of 17–25 from K.R. cricket academy, Chennai. The control group consists of age and sex matched college students from omandurar government medical college. Handgrip strength assessed using Handgrip Dynamometer.

Independent t test was done to compare between two groups. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 20.

The handgrip strength of cricketers is highly significant than that of control group and the right handgrip strength is higher than left hand grip strength in both the groups

Thus handgrip strength can be used as a selective criterion for better performance in cricket and also as an indicator of overall body strength.
