This study was done in the Institute of Physiology, Madurai Medical College, Madurai in association with the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Government Rajaji Hospital attached to the Madurai Medical College, which has 16, 000 running cases of hypothyroidism from 1985 onwards, with proper registration and follow up. The study group consists of 25 subjects who were newly diagnosed hypothyroid individuals in the age group of 20–40 years, of which 20 were females and 5 were males, who were free from any other diseases. The control group consists of 25 subjects who were age and sex matched, normal and euthyroid, free from any other diseases. Written consent was obtained from the subjects before procedures.results tabulated, statistically analysed using’ t ‘ test.
