Elderly population in India is increasing sharply. The medical problems like neurocognitive disorders are on rise. Screening tests used for detection of such disorders is Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Cerebrovascular diseases can lead to neurocognitive disorders and hypertension is one of the risk factor for cerebrovascular diseases Therefore blood pressure was correlated with Mini Mental State Examination.
300 (males and females) aged more than 60 years were screened. Subjects were administered Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire and blood pressure was measured. MMSE score was correlated with Blood Pressure.
It was found that systolic blood pressure was increased in subjects with cognitive impairment though the rise is statistically insignificant. Whereas diastolic blood pressure was less in subjects with cognitive impairment as compared to normal subjects.
