Comparison between indian and western toilet user on hamstring and ankle flexibility among housewives

Abstract

The maximum physical activity performance and desirable musculoskeletal function achieved by the vital component called Flexibility. Due to decreased physical activity, muscle flexibility in modern housewives is usually reduced. The habit of toileting seems to affect the flexibility for most of the population.

The purpose is to find the flexibility of hamstring and ankle between Indian and western toilet users.

The study design was comparative study. 100 females at the age group of 30-50 years who fulfilled the selection criteria were selected. Group A (n=50) western toilet users and Group B (n=50) Indian toilet users. Before the procedure, patient assessed through self-made screening questionnaire. Two outcome measures were used, ankle flexibility determined by ankle dorsiflexion wall test (using inch tape) and hamstring flexibility determined by active knee extension test(using goniometer).Unpaired t test was used for between group analysis.

The result of the study shows that GROUP B Indian toilet user has significant improvement in ankle and hamstring flexibility (p<0.0001).

The study concluded that Indian toilet user shows greater results in ankle and hamstring flexibility among housewives.
