Abstract

Tug of war (TOW) is a sport that pits two teams against each other in a test of strength: teams pulls on opposite ends of a rope with the goal being to bring the rope a certain distance in one direction against the force of opposing teams pull. Handgrip muscle strength has been defined as the maximum force developed during maximum voluntary contraction. Handgrip strength is a physical trait that plays an important role providing effectiveness and efficiency during daily work and sports activity. Assessment of muscle strength test has been a popular form of testing muscle function in sports and exercise. Instrument which has been used to check hand grip strength hand held dynamometer. The aim of the study is to compare the hand grip strength in Indian male TOW players and non-players. The subject was positioned in sitting with back supported. The Subjects were asked to remove their watches or bracelets. Then hand dominance was recorded for each of the subjects. The subjects were then explained about how to hold the dynamometer and how the dial reflects the result by squeezing as tightly as possible. Subjects carried out a simple pre-test for grip strength measurement using an isometric Hand held Dynamometer. Subject performed three trials of the test, resting for 5 seconds between each test. Average of all three trials was done and noted.
