Comparative Analysis of Assisted Sprint Training and Resisted Sprint Training on Coordinative Abilities among Male Non-Sportspersons

Abstract

Sprint training is widely recognized for enhancing athletic performance, but its effects on coordinative abilities in non-sportspersons remain underexplored. This study examines the comparative impact of Assisted Sprint Training (AST) and Resisted Sprint Training (RST) on various coordinative abilities, including balance ability, orientation ability, differentiation ability, reaction ability, rhythm ability, coupling ability, adaptation ability, kinesthetic differentiation, spatial awareness, and anticipation ability among male non-sportspersons aged 18-25 years. A total of 60 participants from Sri Venkateswara University-affiliated colleges, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India, were randomly assigned to AST, RST, and control groups. The 12-week intervention included structured training sessions designed to enhance sprint performance and motor coordination. Results indicated significant improvements in the experimental groups, with AST favouring neuromuscular coordination and RST enhancing muscular control. AST demonstrated greater efficacy in improving orientation ability and kinaesthetic differentiation, while RST was more effective in enhancing balance ability and reaction ability. Statistical analyses using ANOVA confirmed that both training methods yielded significant improvements over the control group (p < 0.05). These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing sprint training programs for general students, emphasizing the benefits of incorporating AST and RST techniques in non-athletic populations to develop fundamental motor skills. Future research should explore the long-term effects of these training methods and their applicability in broader educational and professional training contexts.
